Communicative English Activities

 Communicative English Curriculum for the months of December and January

Ø  Week 1: Reading

Students will take turns to read aloud from suitable reading materials provided by their teachers.

Ø  Week 2: Writing

The teachers can give a variety of topics in the class. They can start by asking the students to write about themselves. They then can read it to the class. Teachers can ask them to write about the student sitting next to them. Here is a list of suggested topics:

For Class 1-5:

  1. My Favorite Animal: Write about your favorite animal and why you like it.
  2. A Day at the Beach: Describe a day at the beach, including the activities you would do.
  3. If I Were a Superhero: Imagine you are a superhero. What powers would you have, and how would you use them?
  4. My Best Friend: Write about your best friend and the things you enjoy doing together.
  5. My Favorite Season: Describe your favorite season and the activities you like to do during that time.

For Class 6-7:

  1. An Adventure in the Jungle: Imagine you are exploring a jungle. Describe your adventure and the creatures you encounter.
  2. If I Could Travel Anywhere: Write about a place you would like to visit and why.
  3. The Day I Learned a Lesson: Share a personal experience where you learned an important lesson.
  4. Invent a New Holiday: Create a new holiday and explain how people would celebrate it.
  5. The Mystery of the Missing Treasure: Write a short mystery story about a missing treasure and how it was found.

For Class 8-10:

  1. The Impact of Technology on Society: Discuss how technology has changed the way we live and communicate.
  2. If I Could Change the World: Write about the changes you would make to make the world a better place.
  3. The Importance of Environmental Conservation: Discuss the importance of protecting the environment and suggest ways to do so.
  4. Describe a Historical Event: Choose a historical event and write about its significance.
  5. The Role of Education in Shaping Future Careers: Explore the relationship between education and future career opportunities.

Ø  Week 3: Listening

Teachers will play appropriate audio passages on the panel and will give oral or written quiz.

Ø  Week 4: Speaking

For Class 1 -5:

  1. Show and Tell: Allow students to bring an item from home and speak about it in front of the class. Encourage them to use descriptive words.
  2. Role Play: Create simple role-playing scenarios where students can act out different roles or characters.
  3. Picture Descriptions: Show a picture to the class and have students describe what they see. This helps them practice using vocabulary to convey information.
  4. Storytelling Circle: Sit in a circle and start a story. Each student adds a sentence to continue the story. This helps with creativity and collaboration.
  5. Weather Report: Have students pretend to be weather reporters and describe different types of weather.

For Class 6-7:

  1. Debates: Divide the class into groups and assign them different topics to debate. Encourage them to present arguments and counterarguments.
  2. Interviews: Pair students and have them take turns interviewing each other. This helps with question formation and answering skills.
  3. Jigsaw Speaking: Provide each student with a piece of information. They have to find their "match" in the class by asking questions and listening to their peers.
  4. Discussion Circles: Assign a topic and have small group discussions. Encourage students to express their opinions and listen to others.
  5. Public Speaking Practice: Allow students to choose a topic they are passionate about and give short speeches to the class. This builds confidence in public speaking.

For Class 8-10:

  1. Mock Interviews: Simulate job or college admission interviews. This helps students practice articulating their thoughts and experiences.
  2. Debates: Students participate in debates on various topics.
  3. TED Talk-style Presentations: Have students prepare and deliver short presentations on topics of their choice, imitating the style of TED Talks.
  4. Current Affairs Discussions: Discuss current events or articles as a class. Encourage students to express their opinions and support their views.
  5. Role Play Complex Scenarios: Create more intricate role-playing scenarios that require problem-solving and critical thinking. This could be related to real-world situations or historical events.
